FUSE is the Interactive Media Departments end of the year showcase, where a student production team works with the local museum to set up the hosting of an event with over 17 unique exhibits and 2,000+ attendees. As the first ever sophomore to run the event I organized the event production team, as well as managing the exhibit teams to ensure they were on track and ready for the showcase.
What is FUSE?
As the student producer for the 2023 show, I spearheaded a VIP night event where my team invited industry professionals to the museum the night before the showcase so that they can see the exhibits without the crowds and ask students to talk about their projects and contributions more intimately. I was very proud of the over 40 person turnout for the first ever hosting of this event, and was able to contribute to the creation of connections that lead to a Bradley University specific internship program with Undead Labs.
I managed expectations as I worked with department faculty and museum staff, and negotiated for more space, and better accommodations for students. I reached out to local companies to set up sponsorship for the events. I also worked with local peoria schools to organize a FUSE school day where students from 3rd – 11th grade came to the museum and got to meet college students to learn more about what you can do with a degree in interactive media.
As someone who deeply cares about my community, it was very important for me to get local Peoria involved in this event. I focused my efforts in bringing more people into the fold and creating better networking opportunities for my fellow students. I loved the opportunity to advertise the event on local radio and newspapers to get the event the attention I knew it deserved. I want to raise people up and find ways to put a spotlight on the work of others. I think the most important thing a good leader does is bring out the best in those around them, and this event was a great way for me to practice this skill.
