Deathmatch Island is a high-drama mystery with a Reality TV Show framing, based on the AGON roleplaying system. The stretch goal island that I contributed was based around the idea of the forgotten entitled The Adrift Isle.
A contributor for an Old Dog Games/Evil Hat Productions game, Deathmatch Island, stretch goal that was funded on BackerKit. I worked alongside Timothy Hutchings, 1,000 Year Old Vampire, and fourteen other university students from around the world to create a unique environment and scenarios for players. I specifically focused on writing an area focused on lost memories that encouraged players to choose between what they know now, and what they could find out.
This collaborative process was interesting not only because I had never worked on a roleplaying game with so many people, but also because we were creating for a system that had already been designed. It was fun to figure out the intricacies of someone else’s system and discover the best way to add your own spin and best use their mechanics to tell your story. Practicing jumping in mid-project and finding cohesion with what has already been set up, while still introducing new ideas and providing useful feedback to peers, is a skill I believe will serve me well when joining new teams and projects.
